The Value Of iPad Devices In Mobile Field Service

  • Klipboard iPad app:

Klipboard’s mission is to help businesses with employees in the field or on the move to be more productive and efficient by removing paper based methods. Our easy to use tablet app allows users to download all their assigned tasks and complete their forms offline, without the need for internet connection. We developed our mobile app on Apple’s iPad tablet based on 2 key considerations:

    Ease of use and reliability

A big part of why the iPads are so popular and have such a wide use in the mobile field market is due to its ease of use and reliability. This ease of use is achieved in large part due to the control Apple has over the hardware, the operating system and App store. iPad devices differ from equivalent Android tablets as the latter is open source which means anyone can develop any type of app according to more flexible standards. This can have benefits but at the same time it can lead to a varying and sometimes disjointed overall experience.

    Strong Security

Security is a big focus for Klipboard as we work to ensure the highest levels of protection for our customer’s data. As standalone devices, iPads and Android devices are both competent in defending against viruses. Both run the risk of malware-infected apps through their app stores, however iPads have much greater protection. Since Apple exerts control over their app store, this means every app submitted to the store is tested by Apple before release – this lessens the risk of a user downloading malware considerably. On the other hand, as Android has a much more open app store, it means that anyone can publish an app to the store. Android will only remove suspected malware being once flagged by users. It was for Apple’s impressive track record of never having malware which is a big reason why Klipboard is supported on iPads only. Recently, companies, such as Salesforce, have announced they are dropping support for all but a few Android devices due to the fragmented nature of the Android experience.

Since security means a lot to us and to our customers, we have designed our mobile app with 3 additional specific security features:

    • Tablet Pin – Each customer can enable a feature so that their iPad users must type in a 4 digit passcode to access the Klipboard app.
    • Partitioned Application – Our application is fully partitioned, meaning that all data taken within the Klipboard app will be stored only within the application itself and not on the device. For example, any photos taken directly within the app will not appear within the device camera roll.
    • Remote User Deactivation – A user account can be remotely deactivated and with all data removed in the scenario that an iPad is lost or stolen. This ensures that customer’s data will be fully safe and secure.

These are just a few thoughts on why we developed our mobile on Apple. We also support iPhone and Android apps too!
